


About the Role
The Cost Accountant is responsible for planning, studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor. The position provides analysis and reporting of cost audits.
Key Activities
Develop cost estimates of new and proposed products.
Responsible for complete cost buildup of products, including bill of material, labor and overhead and any additional factors
Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided, to determine effects on costs
Develop, maintain and review standard costs for materials, ingredients and packaging
Monitor material and labor cost and identify information requirements and recommend improvements
Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
Review rates of depreciation, labor and overhead and suggest policy changes to improve numbers
Classify costs accurately
Maintain inventory; daily cycle counts, annual physical counts and reconciliations
Generate reports and analyze findings on KPIs
Establish pricing for optimal margins and inventory
Maintain and review the general ledger and reconcile balance sheets
Analyze costs of raw materials and other supplies and create cost-benefit analyses for changing vendors.
Preferred Skills
Advanced Excel skills with lookups and pivot tables.
Knowledgeable and Budgets, Statistical Analysis.
Microsoft Dynamics AX or other ERP system experience is a plus.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance preferred or Business-related curriculum; degree is required
3+ years of accounting experience within a manufacturing environment
Must have food industry experience
Strong understanding of GAAP, general ledger, and cost accounting.
