About the Role
The Import Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing the importation of goods via air freight, ensuring timely customs clearance and delivery. This role requires knowledge of import regulations, documentation requirements, and strong coordination with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal departments.
Key Activities
Handle all aspects of air import shipments within the rules and regulations set forth by the US Customs and Border Protection, IATA, and any other government agency.
Receive, review, and process import documentation from agent offices worldwide.
Enter data in an appropriate data system.
Resolve issues and monitor shipment progress.
Billing for files and approving payouts for ocean freight, trucking, and special services.
Work with the AET brokerage department and outside brokerage firms to obtain Customs release and other government agency releases as appropriate, arranging delivery.
Manage carriers for arrival notices, validate data on Carrier websites and AMS, and recover cargo
Process the delivery of cargo.
Take part in a daily run consisting of going to the post office and customs to collect and deliver mail and paperwork
Print labels and file all files.
Preferred Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Familiarity with bonded shipments, FDA, USDA, and other government agency clearances.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
2+ years of experience in air import operations or freight forwarding.
