About the Role

The General Manager of Hatchery Operations will be responsible for managing all technical and administrative aspects of the hatchery at the Pennsylvania location. The management approach and style must be in accordance with the Policies and legislative requirements of the Company, ensuring sustained profitability and competitiveness.

Key Activities

  • Ensure production and operation are performing at the optimum levels to support the group marketing and sales team’s goals and objectives. 

  • Manage the operation and work program to achieve established goals and objectives. 

  • Analyze, identify and implement measures to improve hatchery efficiencies and minimize operational costs. 

  • Maintain and continually improve operational policies with respect to incubation, vaccination, sanitation, and transportation parameters and all aspects of husbandry as it relates to day old chicks. 

  • Ensure that an effective program of preventative maintenance and fixed asset management is in place. 

  • Prepare management information for analysis and decision making by Executive management. 

  • Receive and resolve all major issues, inquiries and concerns from other production areas, contractors and suppliers. 

  • Liaise with HR to review employment, promotion, termination, disciplinary actions training, performance assessment, pay and benefits administration. 

  • Manage the timely and accurate procurement of material, supplies and approve documentation related to requisitioning of payment suppliers and service contractors. 

  • Ensure that proper sanitation practices are enforced. 

  • Ensure that proper inventory records are maintained. 

  • Keep abreast of technological advancement/trends within industry. 

  • Ensure adherence to all current Quality and Safety, Health and Environment (QSHE) standards as well as current motor vehicle, security, food safety systems, policies, procedures and guidelines. 

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent people skills.

  • Expert knowledge of Poultry Management practices.

  • Sound knowledge of project management principles and techniques.

Education and Experience

  • Seven (7) years of experience in Agri-Business at the managerial level.

  • Experience in quantitative analysis methods, financial management and operations management.

  • B.A. or B.S. in Business, Marketing, a similar field or equivalent qualification from a recognized tertiary institution.
