This role helps drive innovation, product performance, regulatory compliance, and successful product launches by applying engineering principles throughout the product development lifecycle while ensuring products meet customer, clinical, manufacturing, and quality requirements.
R&D Engineers typically lead product design, prototyping, verification, validation, testing, risk management, and design transfer activities while collaborating with Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Clinical, Operations, Marketing, and cross-functional engineering teams. Their responsibilities may include capturing customer requirements, developing product specifications, creating engineering designs, conducting product evaluations, managing design control documentation, supporting manufacturing transfers, and ensuring compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, cGMP, and other applicable regulatory standards.
R&D Engineers are expected to understand how product design directly impacts product quality, manufacturability, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, and overall business success. Common Responsibilities:
Leading product design and development activities from concept, feasibility, prototyping, verification, validation, design transfer, and commercialization while ensuring products meet customer, clinical, and business requirements.
Capturing user and customer requirements, developing product specifications, creating engineering designs, optimizing product performance, and supporting design for manufacturability (DFM) initiatives.
Managing design control activities, risk management, engineering documentation, and product development processes in compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, cGMP, and other applicable regulatory and quality standards.
Developing and executing engineering evaluations, product testing, verification, validation, usability studies, risk assessments, and performance analyses to support product quality and regulatory compliance.
Collaborating with Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Clinical, Operations, Marketing, and cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
Investigating product, component, and manufacturing issues by performing root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and optimizing product quality and manufacturability.
Managing technical documentation including Design History Files (DHF), specifications, protocols, engineering reports, validation documentation, change controls, project schedules, and technical milestones while supporting successful product launches and continuous innovation.
