Research Associate Job Description:
A Research Associate is responsible for supporting scientific research, laboratory operations, and product development activities within a Life Sciences manufacturing environment. This role helps advance pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostic, and related products by conducting laboratory experiments, collecting scientific data, maintaining documentation, and supporting research programs while ensuring regulatory compliance and product quality.
Research Associates often perform laboratory experiments, prepare samples and reagents, operate laboratory equipment, analyze scientific data, support method development, verification, validation, and technology transfer activities while working closely with Scientists, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, Clinical, Engineering, and R&D teams. Their work may include maintaining laboratory documentation, troubleshooting laboratory issues, supporting equipment calibration, participating in new product development, and ensuring compliance with established quality systems and regulatory requirements.
Research Associates are expected to understand how laboratory research directly impacts product quality, manufacturing performance, regulatory compliance, patient safety, and overall business success. Strong candidates typically combine laboratory expertise, analytical skills, scientific curiosity, problem-solving ability, communication skills, and attention to detail to support innovation within highly regulated Life Sciences manufacturing environments.
Common Responsibilities:
Conducting laboratory experiments, scientific testing, and research activities supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostic, and related Life Sciences product development initiatives.
Preparing samples, reagents, laboratory equipment, and testing materials while collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and documenting experimental data in accordance with approved protocols and project objectives.
Supporting product development, method development, verification, validation, technology transfer, and new product introduction (NPI) activities while ensuring compliance with GLP, GMP, GCP (where applicable), FDA, ISO, and company quality standards.
Collaborating with Scientists, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, Clinical, Engineering, and R&D teams to achieve project milestones, resolve technical challenges, and support successful product development.
Maintaining laboratory notebooks, SOPs, technical documentation, scientific records, and data integrity in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and applicable regulatory requirements.
Troubleshooting laboratory issues, maintaining laboratory equipment, supporting calibration, preventive maintenance, continuous improvement initiatives, and laboratory process optimization to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Supporting regulatory submissions, audits, inspections, scientific documentation, and cross-functional research activities while ensuring laboratory compliance, product quality, and operational excellence.
