Research Scientist Job Description:
A Research Scientist is responsible for conducting scientific research, designing and executing experiments, and supporting the development of innovative pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostic, and other Life Sciences products. This role helps advance scientific knowledge, improve products and processes, and support product commercialization while ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality requirements.
Research Scientists often design research studies, conduct laboratory experiments, analyze scientific data, develop new technologies, support product development, perform validation activities, and prepare technical documentation while working closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams. Their work may include evaluating new materials, investigating technical challenges, supporting technology transfers, optimizing manufacturing processes, and contributing to regulatory submissions throughout the product lifecycle.
Research Scientists are expected to understand how scientific research directly impacts product quality, manufacturing performance, regulatory compliance, patient safety, and overall business success. Strong candidates typically combine scientific expertise, analytical ability, laboratory experience, problem-solving skills, communication skills, and continuous improvement experience to support innovation within highly regulated Life Sciences manufacturing environments.
Common Responsibilities:
Designing, planning, and executing scientific research studies, laboratory experiments, and product development activities supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostic, and related Life Sciences products.
Conducting scientific investigations, analyzing experimental data, preparing technical reports, regulatory documentation, publications, and presentations while ensuring compliance with GLP, GMP, GCP (where applicable), FDA, ICH, ISO, and company quality standards.
Supporting the development, optimization, validation, and commercialization of products, manufacturing processes, and technologies to improve product quality, performance, and regulatory compliance.
Collaborating with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams throughout the product lifecycle to achieve successful project outcomes.
Performing literature reviews, evaluating emerging technologies, investigating technical issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions to improve product and process performance.
Supporting technology transfer, process scale-up, validation, new product introductions (NPI), continuous improvement initiatives, and innovation programs while enhancing manufacturing efficiency and operational excellence.
Maintaining accurate laboratory records, scientific documentation, and data integrity while mentoring junior scientists, supporting regulatory submissions, and ensuring compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and applicable regulatory requirements.
