Sanitation Managers often work closely with production, quality, maintenance, engineering, operations, EH&S, supply chain, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Their work may include developing sanitation procedures, managing cleaning schedules, overseeing sanitation staff, conducting inspections and audits, maintaining sanitation documentation, ensuring chemical safety, supporting preventive maintenance activities, and implementing corrective actions. In a manufacturing environment, the role combines operational leadership with regulatory compliance, employee training, and cross-functional collaboration.

Supervising sanitation personnel and contractors while ensuring cleaning activities are completed safely, efficiently, and according to established procedures.
Monitoring sanitation effectiveness through inspections, audits, environmental monitoring, and verification activities while implementing corrective actions.
Ensuring compliance with OSHA, GMP, HACCP, SQF, BRCGS, FDA (where applicable), environmental regulations, and company policies.
Managing sanitation documentation, SOPs, SSOPs, inspection records, chemical inventories, and regulatory compliance records.
Supporting internal, customer, regulatory, and third-party audits while addressing findings and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
Overseeing the safe handling, storage, and use of sanitation chemicals, cleaning equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Providing training and guidance on sanitation procedures, hygiene practices, chemical safety, regulatory requirements, and food safety principles.
