SQF Coordinators often work closely with Production, Quality, Sanitation, Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies. Their work may include maintaining SQF certification, managing HACCP plans, conducting food safety risk assessments, coordinating internal and external audits, overseeing documentation, supporting corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), delivering employee training, and monitoring compliance with GMP, FDA, HACCP, and customer requirements. In a manufacturing environment, the role combines food safety expertise with regulatory knowledge, process management, and cross-functional collaboration.


SQF Coordinators are expected to understand how food safety systems impact product quality, regulatory compliance, customer confidence, and business performance. Common Responsibilities:

  • Managing and continuously improving the SQF program, Food Safety and Quality Management System (FSQMS), HACCP plans, prerequisite programs (PRPs), and food safety procedures.

  • Ensuring compliance with SQF, GMP, HACCP, FDA (where applicable), customer requirements, and company food safety and quality standards.

  • Coordinating SQF certification, internal, customer, supplier, regulatory, and third-party audits while ensuring timely resolution of audit findings.

  • Conducting food safety risk assessments, environmental monitoring, verification activities, and compliance reviews to maintain certification requirements.

  • Investigating food safety and quality issues, performing root cause analysis (RCA), and coordinating corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

  • Maintaining food safety documentation, SOPs, SSOPs, HACCP plans, specifications, training records, audit reports, and document control systems.

  • Monitoring calibration, validation, change management, and verification activities to ensure ongoing compliance and system effectiveness.

  • Tracking food safety and quality metrics, preparing management reports, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Delivering employee training on SQF requirements, GMPs, food safety, hygiene, allergen control, sanitation, and quality procedures.
