


About the Role
This Sales Executive will be accountable for winning, growing, and retaining full truckload business with retail accounts and their suppliers, with a strong emphasis on delivering reliable, compliant service into retail distribution centres.
Key Activities
New Business Development
Identify, target, and acquire new TL-for-retail customers, including national and regional retailers and their vendor networks.
Build and manage a healthy sales pipeline across key verticals supplying the retail space (CPG, food & bev, household goods, electronics, cosmetics, etc.).
Develop and execute strategic account plans for priority customers and lanes.
Retail-Focused TL Sales
Sell full truckload services into retail distribution centres and vendor facilities, including:
Inbound to retailer DCs / cross-docks
Outbound to stores or regional hubs
Seasonal and promotional surge coverage
Navigate retailer routing guides, appointment scheduling, and compliance requirements.
Collaborate with pricing/operations to design lane-specific solutions (dedicated, contract, and spot TL).
Customer Relationship Management
Act as the primary commercial contact for assigned accounts, from prospecting through implementation and ongoing growth.
Conduct regular QBRs / performance reviews, sharing KPIs (OTIF, on-time appointments, tender acceptance, chargebacks, etc.).
Proactively identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities (additional lanes, added capacity, new DCs/regions).
Internal Collaboration & Execution
Partner closely with operations, dispatch, and customer service to ensure execution matches what was sold.
Provide clear customer requirements to internal teams: service levels, accessorials, EDI, reporting, and performance targets.
Work with leadership to feedback market intelligence (rates, capacity, competitor moves, retailer changes).
Preferred Skills
Existing book of business or strong network among retail shippers and their key suppliers.
Experience with LTL / intermodal in addition to TL (for solution selling).
Exposure to 3PL / brokerage models and asset-based TL environments.
Experience working with TMS platforms and retailer portals (for loads, appointments, and scorecards).
Education and Experience
3–7+ years of proven success in transportation/logistics sales, with a clear focus on full truckload (TL).
Direct experience selling TL into the retail space, for example:
Selling TL services to or on behalf of retailers such as Walmart, Costco, Target, Dollar General, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Best Buy, Kroger, etc.
Managing lanes into retailer DCs with strict routing guides and performance metrics.
