About the Role

The Press Operator will be responsible for quantitative and qualitative press performance. Directs the crew and performs manual and machine operator tasks related to the setup, maintenance, and operation of the press.

Key Activities

  • Make ready and operate the press.

  • Lead, provide directions to, and monitor the work of the press crew.

  • Record sheet counts and perform line clearance.

  • Review job order to determine quantity, stock specifications, colours or special printing instructions.

  • Verifies copy to customer approval or signed colour standard.

  • Examine the printing plate for visual defects and correct or repair minor defects.

  • Hang plates and register.

  • Install correct thickness packing under blanket to meet manufacturer specs.

  • Measures paper thickness and adjusts the press console so the press will operate.

  • Fills ink, solution fountains, and regulates the flow of ink and dampening solution to the plate cylinder.

  • Starts press and examines printed copy for ink density, position on paper and registration.

  • Makes adjustments to maintain specific registration and colour density.

  • Makes adjustments to the feeder and delivery mechanism.

  • Remove plates and clean all cylinders and bearers.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor adjustments.

Preferred Skills

  • Bi-lingual

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma/GED and completion of a press apprenticeship program, or an equivalent number of years of education

  • 5 years of experience in paper/packaging/folding carton manufacturing.
