About the Role

The Lead Printing Technician is responsible for overseeing printing operations, ensuring production efficiency, maintaining print quality standards, troubleshooting equipment issues, and leading a team of printing operators.

Key Activities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor printing equipment to ensure optimal performance and product quality.

  • Review production schedules and prioritize jobs to meet customer deadlines.

  • Verify materials, inks, plates, and specifications before production runs.

  • Ensure compliance with all print quality, color, and registration standards.

  • Minimize downtime through effective troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.

  • Lead, train, and mentor printing operators and production staff.

  • Assign daily tasks and monitor employee performance.

  • Promote a safe, productive, and positive work environment.

  • Assist with onboarding and training of new team members.

  • Provide technical guidance and support during production challenges.

  • Conduct quality inspections throughout production runs.

  • Monitor color consistency, print registration, and product specifications.

  • Investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.

  • Maintain production and quality records as required.

  • Perform routine maintenance and equipment adjustments.

  • Coordinate major repairs with maintenance personnel or vendors.

  • Maintain proper inventory of inks, plates, and printing supplies.

  • Ensure equipment is operated according to manufacturer guidelines.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Strong attention to detail and quality focus.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred.

  • 3–7+ years of printing industry experience, with leadership experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of flexographic, offset, digital, gravure, or screen printing processes.
