About the Role

The Quality Manager is a self-driven, well-organized Food Safety & Quality professional who exercises sound decision-making and time management with minimal supervision. This position reports to the Director of Operations. It is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the facility's Quality organization, including the Quality Supervisor, Quality Leads, and Quality Technicians.

Key Activities

  • Oversee the implementation and day-to-day maintenance of the facility's food safety and quality programs, including FDA Preventive Controls, SQF, HACCP, GMP, and allergen control.

  • Partner with the Director of Regulatory and Quality Compliance to ensure facility programs align with corporate standards and the highest levels of food safety and quality.

  • Leverage industry experience to identify improvement opportunities for new and existing products and processes.

  • Audit and assess the sanitation program to confirm identified processes are effective and properly executed.

  • Directly manage and develop the Quality Supervisor and provide oversight for the broader Quality team, including coaching, performance management, and scheduling.

  • Develop and communicate facility-specific quality metrics that measure QA department performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Maintain a daily presence on the plant floor to ensure adherence to quality and safety standards and to collect performance data.

  • Conduct onboarding, annual, and other periodic food safety/quality training sessions for all employees.

  • Lead, coordinate, and communicate all required customer audits, SQF audits, regulatory inspections, and internal audits.

  • Complete facility-specific portions of the SQF Internal Audit program, assess gaps with the Quality Assurance department, and implement corrective actions.

  • Independently initiate process improvement and cost-savings projects.

  • Work with plant leadership to comply with customer requirements and maintain high industry standards.

  • Comply with and enforce GMP, personal hygiene, HACCP, and other quality and employee safety programs.

  • Maintain and enforce all food safety, employee safety, and quality policies and procedures.

  • Foster a strong culture of food safety, quality, and continuous improvement throughout the facility.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills

  • HACCP, Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI), and SQF Practitioner certification preferred.

  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with quality management software.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a 4-year degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 7 years' experience working in GFSI-certified facilities.

  • 2-3+ years' experience in a quality leadership role, with direct people management experience.

  • Current work experience in food manufacturing with FSMA Preventive Controls, HACCP, GMPs, and SQF or other GFSI certification scheme required.
