About the Role

This HR Specialist will be responsible for the coordination and performance of daily human resources functions, including payroll, benefits, recruitment, orientation, compliance, and recordkeeping. This position will collaborate and support HR Department initiatives to build company culture, engagement, and professional development.

Key Activities

  • Build trust and credibility with all employee groups to create a safe, supportive, and open workplace environment.

  • Demonstrate positive behaviors to create a workplace culture in support of Core Values.

  • Process bi-weekly payroll, maintain detailed supporting documentation; review and verify reports to ensure accurate records.

  • Administer benefit plans, verify and process monthly invoices, coordinate annual open enrollment with benefit providers and/or benefit advisor, maintain WRAP document, coordinate COBRA, and complete annual compliance reporting.

  • Complete FMLA requests and documentation in accordance with Federal Law.

  • Recruit, screen, interview, and facilitate the hiring of applicants that fit Core. 

  • Values; collaborate with hiring managers to understand skills and competencies required for positions.

  • Complete hiring tasks; post position, conduct background and reference checks, schedule physical capacity testing, and extend job offer.

  • Enhance and execute a positive new-hire orientation and on-boarding experience; assist hiring manager with development of new-hire training schedule.

  • Maintain organized and updated employee and departmental records; follow document retention processes.

  • Maintain updated written procedures on all processes performed by position.

  • Manage job descriptions; develop and update in collaboration with HR Director.

  • Respond to customer inquiries in a professional and timely manner.

  • Effectively utilize and maintain ADP Workforce Now HRIS system. Identify and implement new opportunities to streamline HR processes within the system and with other technology.

  • Collaborate and assist with Performance Review Process.

  • Coordinate Intern and Mentor programs in collaboration with hiring manager.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.

  • Collaborate with Safety Manager on Workers' Compensation Program, ensuring claims are filed in a timely manner.

  • Actively participate and help coordinate internal committees and assist with organizing employee luncheons.

  • Increase professional knowledge, best practices, and trends by attending educational workshops or networking events, reading professional publications, and participating in professional societies.

  • Ability to identify and improve processes using technology to increase efficiencies.

  • Proven critical thinker with the ability to problem solve, exercise good judgment, and make timely decisions.

  • Be approachable and exhibit strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively listen, present information, and communicate professionally, both verbal and in writing, to establish and maintain effective working relationships externally and internally.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources or a relevant field; or at least three (3+) years of HR generalist experience; or equivalent combination of skills and experience.

  • Human Resources Certification, strongly preferred.

  • Proven experience with HRIS systems with understanding of applicant tracking, benefit and performance management, time and attendance, and a solid knowledge of labor law and compliance.

  • Minimum two (2) years of payroll processing experience. Experience with ADP Workforce Now a plus.
