About the Role

The Manual Machinist will be responsible for setting up and operating manual machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses to fabricate metal components according to precise specifications.

Key Activities

  • Set up and operate manual machines (lathe, mill, grinder, etc.) to produce parts based on engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, and work instructions to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances.

  • Select appropriate tools, speeds, and feeds for each machining operation.

  • Perform quality checks using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to ensure parts meet required tolerances.

  • Monitor machine operations and make adjustments to ensure optimal performance and finish.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and comply with all safety and quality regulations.

  • Assist with basic machine maintenance and report any malfunctions or repairs needed.

  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other team members to resolve issues and improve processes.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with various materials (e.g., steel, aluminum, brass, plastics).

  • Forklift or crane operation experience (if applicable)

Education and Experience

  • 10 years or more preferred. CNC experience is irrelevant. Experience with manual lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in machining or manufacturing is a plus.
